Whether it is in the movies or a novel, the romantic trope of "love at first sight" has always been something people fantasize about or want to believe in. And apparently for us, this was true - even with this being the 'first sight'.

With our Officiant Claire pulling the strings in the background, Emily said "I want to meet that guy" and Kyle said "something must be wrong with her" - the proverbial wheels were now in motion.

What started as an awkwardly picked first date timing of too late for dinner but not early enough for drinks, turning into a bar hop down Ossington and being introduced to best friend Alex, a connection was made. Come their next encounter, everyone is a little more comfortable, jitters are gone and Emily already giving her opinions regarding Kyle's facial hair. Listening is a skill most men may struggle with but Kyle heard Emily loud and clear and upon returning home from the bar, promptly entered his 'Moustache Era' and the start of a 72 hour 2nd date.

If the first few weeks were any indication, we had no intention of slowing down. The dates would continue - any free night they had would be a dinner at home or out on the town until Kyle decided to make it official. From a rapid fire weekend of meeting families over Easter to Emily joining Kyle on his President's Club work trip to the Dominican with a white party and everyone thinking they were on the set of 90 Day Fiancé (except in our case it was 60), everyone could see and feel the beginning of something special.

Over the summer, they enjoyed time in the places they love - up north with the MacKellars on Kawagama, convincing them that the perfect dog does in fact exist! And with the Moore’s on the Cape, where Kyle made an everlasting impression after a day of rosé (ask him for the details). They then found their first home together in Christie Pits so that Roxy could officially call Kyle, Dad.

Emily's first Channukah is likely what sealed the deal - Bubby really coming in clutch. Or maybe it was a winter spent skiing in Ellicottville where an ex-ski bum and a retired racer realized one didn't have to be faster than the other, as long as they were together, ripping turns down to the apres (though for those wondering, Kyle is faster, Emily is more polished and technical). Somewhere along the way, a ring was bought and Kyle planned a romantic weekend at the cottage. After what felt like an hour’s walk to the picnic, with plenty of nerves and a lot of small talk – the bugs vanished and Emily was met with a ring, some bubbles and the start of the next amazing chapter. Not too dissimilar from the day she said yes, we look forward to sharing laughs, love, oysters, good food and drinks with all our closest friends to celebrate together on May 16th.
